Our Creative Director
Joel Escalona
Joel Escalona, a Mexican designer, defies categorization with his multifaceted approach. Driven by a quest for clarity, integrity, and harmony, Joel's artistic journey encompasses a deep-rooted connection to visual arts, including drawing and sculpture.
His work embodies meticulous and refined processes that seamlessly blend creativity, productivity, and introspection. Through his distinct personality, Joel infuses elements of lyricism, humor, and poetry, lending an enchanting allure to his diverse portfolio.
With a degree in industrial design from UAM-A and a master's degree in Contemporary Art, Markets, and Business from Universidad Centro and Sotheby's, Joel Escalona established his own design firm in 2014. Throughout his career, he has undertaken numerous industrial design projects while venturing into the realm of collectible design pieces with his thought-provoking Balance series. This collection explores the creative equilibrium among an array of materials, simultaneously questioning Joel's own artistic capacity.
In addition to running his eponymous studio, Joel served as the creative director at BREUER and Taller Maya, shaping their unique creative identities and developing a diverse range of products. Collaborating with esteemed brands such as Design Within Reach, Roche Bobois, Opinion Ciatti, BD Barcelona, Tane, Pirwi, Nouvel, and others, he has left an indelible mark on the design world.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Joel imparts his wealth of knowledge and experience as a professor at CENTRO and ITESM in Mexico City. Passionate about nurturing creative talents and transforming creativity into a fulfilling profession, he inspires the next generation of aspiring designers.
